The following are some developmental sketches for a current University project.
In brief, the story by Joseph Conrad is about a man on a ship who helps a drifter onboard who ends up being a murderer who was thrown off another ship but he is unable to tell anyone because he wants to help him. So he has to keep his exsistance on the boat a secret.
I found the story to be very dreamlike and ghostly, as no-one knows about the exsistance of the murderer and when he leaves by jumping overboard no-one even knows he was there. So I thought about the whole ship being a ghost ship that no-one knows is out there and used this as a design/theme/style to use throughout.
Created with chalks, pencil crayons, gouache, and gel pens.
One main aspect that strikes me is the wonderfull colours used in this piece, really gets across the whole dream feel. Brava on the boat perspective! Plus, great use of materials....
Dont worry about it budd, you got there in the end hehe!
